Job Title - Assistant Coach - Track & Field - Throws Coach - --- - --- - Position Type - Supplemental Position - Reports To - Director of Athletics and Facilities - Location - General McLane High School - Duration - 2026-2027 School Year - - Functional Purpose - To lead the throws coaching team (shotput, discus, javelin) and assist the head coach as needed. • Coach shotput, discus, and javelin.
• Works with the head coach to develop weekly schedules for athletes who may throw and compete in track events.
• Helps run dual meets and yearly invitational.
• Presents for fundraisers that support the team's finances and morale.
• Seeks yearly advancement in training for areas of influence.
• Helps in the development of strength and conditioning programs as needed.
• Completes appropriate paperwork, reports, and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Experience participating in and/or functioning as a coach/advisor in a particular activity.
• Knowledge of rules, theory, strategy, and regulations relating to the specific activity, including rules changes and new developments.
• Skill at providing leadership and developing rapport with students; constructing well organized and efficient practices and meets; communicating verbally and in writing; supervising students and school areas; and teaching good sportsmanship.
• Depending on the activity, applicants must be willing and able to work on weekends and at various times of the day.
• This is a GMEA-contracted position and compensation is based on the 2026-2027 GMEA contract and amount listed.
• Must complete and submit all six (6) required GMSD clearances and TB test before starting.
