Job Description
The individual hired for this position will enjoy working in an elementary school environment, show a positive attitude, and be flexible to lend a hand where needed. The successful candidate will have effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Responsibilities
Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education Participates in the development of and oversees implementation of IEPs for students eligible for special education Supervises and supports paraprofessionals as they implement instruction Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom. Establishes, evaluates and maintains data on students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program. Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members to determine solutions. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.Ideal Candidate

Implements state and federal laws and regulations as they apply to special education Knowledge of best practices regarding elementary school education and the elementary school model. Knowledge of ESPED and IEP writing, preferred. Professional understanding of individual student learning styles. Ability to successfully collaborate with colleagues. Ability to manage crisis situations in a public school setting. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are a must.Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred. MDES certification as a Moderate/Severe Special Education Teacher (5-12, 8-12, 9-12 level).Salary & Benefits
