Special Education Para - Trailside Elementary
Job Summary
Work with students individually or in group settings under the direction of professional staff. Assist with supervision of students and implement behavior management strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Work with students individually or in group settings
Supervise students in classroom, cafeteria, halls, etc.
Implement behavior management strategies
May include riding the bus with students
May include working one-to-one with student to complete assigned tasks
Student supervision required
Ensuring student safety is required
Other duties may be assigned
Assist students with necessary health assistance under the guidance of nurses
Assist in preparation of materials used in educational process
Assist students at mealtime
Assist students in personal hygiene areas
Help get students to and from bus or car
Other duties as may be assigned
Assignments and Scheduling
7 hours (7) hours per day, $17.26/hour
Two-year post-secondary education or paraeducator certificate or qualifying score on NCRC assessment test required
Start date to be determined
Preparation, experience, skills, willingness to assume responsibility
Ability to work well with others
Flexibility in working with classroom teachers
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Ability to effectively supervise students while maintaining a positive relationship with them
Capable of representing the school in a professional manner

Sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday.
The employee will frequently work in different areas of the classroom including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities, etc.
The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising students outside of the classroom.
