Job Summary
Work with students individually or in group settings under the direction of professional staff. Assist with supervision of students and implement behavior management strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Work with students individually or in group settings Supervise students in classroom, cafeteria, halls, etc. Implement behavior management strategies May include riding the bus with students May include working one-to-one with student to complete assigned tasks Student supervision required Ensuring student safety is required Other duties may be assigned Assist students with necessary health assistance under the guidance of nurses Assist in preparation of materials used in educational process Assist students at mealtime Assist students in personal hygiene areas Help get students to and from bus or car Other duties as may be assignedAssignments and Scheduling
7 hours (7) hours per day, Monday through Friday Two-year post-secondary education or paraeducator certificate or qualifying score on NCRC assessment test requiredPhysical Demands
Frequently stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear Squat, stoop, or kneel; reach above the head and forward 0 to 24 inches and occasionally up to 36 inches Continuously use hand strength to grasp items Frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than average person while performing duties Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet Push/pull items such as tables and carts Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focusWorking Environment
Quiet work environment with occasional noise levels Commitment of professional working hours that may require extending beyond typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday Work in different areas of classroom, including desks, floor, standing, and movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities Indoor temperatures but may work outdoors when supervising students outside of classroomEssential Functions
