Principal. This is a stipend position that will be added to the successful candidate's full teaching load.
Job Goal
The High School Department Chair provides leadership, coordination, and support for the department, ensuring high-quality instruction and alignment with district, state, and national standards.
Specific Duties
Curriculum Leadership
Lead teachers in the implementation and continuous improvement of the curriculum and instructional practices to foster exceptional student achievement.
Develop both long-term and short-term program improvement plans for the department. Ensure alignment of curriculum content, materials, and methods of instruction, with district, state, and national standards. Work collaboratively to ensure vertical alignment with elementary and secondary for the content area. Lead and oversee the middle school content team, ensuring effective instruction and program delivery.Instructional Support and Professional Development
Coordinate and/or provide targeted professional development and in-service training for teachers to keep staff up-to-date on best practices and research-based instructional strategies.
Coordinate and facilitate learning walks based on district, school, and department priorities.Support the Integrity of Curriculum Implementation
Support new teachers, orienting them to the curriculum, department, and school procedures.
Model lessons and meet with teachers on planning, classroom strategies, and student data.Administration and Communication
Participate in the selection, adoption, and approval of instructional materials, textbooks, and resources.
Collaborate with administration, guidance, and special education departments for effective scheduling and program coordination. Manage the department budget in coordination with school and district leadership. Serve as a communication link between the administrative team and department staff.Program Evaluation and Data Analysis
Analyze student performance data (such as standardized test results) to identify academic strengths and areas for improvement.
Evaluate the effectiveness of department programs and assessments, making recommendations to meet the needs of students at all ability levels. Monitor the integrity of curriculum implementation and provide feedback to teachers. Assist in data collection, progress monitoring, and analysis to assess student growth and program effectiveness.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Terms of Employment
Length of the contract to be determined by the superintendent.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the school committee policy on the evaluation of teaching staff. This position requires regular reapplication of interest to continue in the position. Continuation in the role will be based on the discretion of the superintendent based upon feedback from the principal. See contract language below:
NEAB Contract
Teachers who seek to fill academic/instructional leadership positions shall apply through a process defined by the administration and in accordance with committee policy. The superintendent, or their designee, shall select the most qualified applicant to fill the position; if two candidates are equally qualified, the candidate with the greater district experience shall be selected. If the superintendent deems it necessary, they shall meet with the person in the academic/instructional leadership position on or about February 1st. By no later than May 1st, a teacher who seeks to continue in an academic/instructional leadership position for the forthcoming school year shall so indicate in a written communication directed to the superintendent, who shall review and schedule a meeting with a teacher as necessary. By June 30th, the superintendent shall finalize their recommendations for an appointment for the forthcoming year; any position that is to be filled shall be posted by that date.
No teacher so selected has the right to retain such position from year to year without reappointment by the committee at the start of each school year upon recommendation of the superintendent, or otherwise in accordance with the law.
