Job Title: Beyond the Bell Teacher (Internal)
The Little Compton School Department will be offering "Little Compton Learning Link: Building Strong Foundations and Creative Voices Beyond the Bell." This K-8 after-school initiative will extend learning beyond the regular school day through targeted reading and mathematics support for students in grades K-5 and creative writing enrichment for students in grades 6-8.
Program Details
• Program Dates: November 2026 through May 2027
• Location: Scheduled weekday afternoons at the Little Compton Public (Brownell) Library and Wilbur McMahon School
• Staffing: Certified teachers and other qualified school staff will provide small-group instruction tailored to students' ages, abilities, and learning needs.
Program Structure for K-5 Students
• Targeted reading and mathematics support designed to strengthen essential academic foundations
• Reading activities addressing areas such as fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and engagement with high-interest literature
• Mathematics activities reinforcing number sense, computation, problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and practical applications through hands-on activities, games, and collaborative learning
Program Structure for Grades 6-8 Students
• Creative writing workshops that encourage imagination, self-expression, communication, and confidence
• Exploration of genres such as short fiction, poetry, personal narrative, descriptive writing, and informational writing
• Engagement in the complete writing process through brainstorming, drafting, peer collaboration, revising, editing, and publishing
• Incorporation of local history, the natural environment, and community experiences as inspiration for student writing
Program Outcomes
• Culmination in a student anthology, public reading, or community showcase at the library
• Giving students an authentic audience for their work while celebrating student voice and strengthening connections among the school, library, families, and community
Staffing Requirements
• Estimated 5 teachers needed
• Approximately 200 hours of instruction anticipated for K-5 program
• Approximately 100 hours of instruction anticipated for grade 6-8 program
• A coordinator will be appointed for each program to facilitate
