Duties and Responsibilities
• Direct and supervise assistant coaches.
• Organize and run practices.
• Teach fundamentals and skills.
• Teach rules and regulations.
• Display and teach good sportsmanship.
• Assist in maintaining, issuing and collecting all equipment and supplies.
• Supervise players at all times.
• Complete injury report form within 24 hours and notify athletic director of any injury requiring medical attention.
• Comply with the rules and regulations of the school, athletic department, and interscholastic league.
• Attend all coaches’ meetings, practices and contests.
• Verify academic eligibility of all players, based on academic and weekly attendance records.
• Communicate program expectations to student-athletes and parents.
• Monitor each athlete’s athletic and academic performance.
• Establish and maintain consistent standards of behavior, aligned with the Coventry High School's student code of conduct.
• Document and report violations of the student code of conduct to a designated administrator at Coventry High School.
• Schedule and conduct a pre-season parent’s meeting.
Coaching Requirements
• Five years of coaching at the high school level preferred.
• Possesses knowledge/skills in football, based upon experience and/or coaching.
• Directly responsible to the athletic director in collaboration with the high school principal.
• Must meet Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s coaching certification requirements.
• Demonstrated ability in recognizing that the growth and development of each student-athlete requires meeting their individual needs.
• Must be CPR, First Aid, and AED certified and have completed the NFHS Concussion Course.
