Job Summary
The varsity head coach for girls' basketball plans, directs, and supervises all aspects of the varsity basketball program in accordance with RIIL, athletic department, and school policies. The head coach is responsible for supporting the athletic, skill, and personal development of student-athletes while fostering a positive team culture grounded in sportsmanship, teamwork, and the mission and values of St. Mary Academy Bay View.
Key Responsibilities
• Assumes responsibility for organizing, coaching, and administering the full varsity basketball program;
• Follows sound coaching practices in teaching all skills, including aspects of health and safety;
• Fosters a team culture grounded in discipline, sportsmanship, accountability, and respect;
• Develops game plans which are flexible and adaptable to changing game strategies;
• Promotes and encourages active student participation, engagement, and positive behavior;
• Provides leadership and guidance to the assistant coach;
• Assumes responsibility for equipment inventory;
• Completes and submits all required end-of-season reports and documentation; and
• Follows the policies and procedures in the athletic handbook.
Qualifications
• Prior experience as a varsity basketball head coach or collegiate playing experience preferred;
• Comprehensive knowledge of the sport and the ability to demonstrate and teach individual skills;
• NFHS certified or willingness to become certified including CPR/First Aid/AED;
• Dedication to the school, student-athlete, and to the athletic program;
• Ability to motivate the student-athlete to maximum potential;
• Professional in appearance and actions; and
• The candidate will be required to pass a national background check with fingerprints.
Reporting Structure
The head coach reports to the Director of Athletics and works collaboratively with members of the athletics department and school leadership.
