Job Summary
The Eccat/Aide assists the teacher(s) in a variety of ways to implement the instructional program, including working directly with children in small groups or on a one-to-one basis. The primary focus will be with PreK special needs students.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent (WV Code 18A-2-5)
• Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code 18-5-15c
• Employees who have never held the classification of Aide will be required to pass the state-developed Aide Competency Test
• Willingness to enroll and take courses (online or in a classroom) to obtain Early Childhood Assistant Teacher Authorization upon employment in this position
• Must hold or be eligible to apply for ECCAT authorization (Paraprofessional, Temporary, or Permanent)

Performance Responsibilities
• Assist teacher as needed with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials
• Conduct learning games with students according to established procedures
• Maintain regular attendance and complies with state law and county policies and procedures
• Maintain an environment that is safe for students and conducive to learning
• Anticipate and effectively address unforeseen crises associated with working with large groups of children
• Assist with supervision and instruction of children (e.g., copying, cutting, coloring)
• Provide individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher
• Assist in implementing lessons based on district and school objectives and needs and abilities of students
• Supervise student passengers on buses and maintain a safe traveling environment
• Attend in-services and workshops as directed
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity
• Assist the teacher in supervision of children in the classroom and to various locations in the school (e.g., instructional areas, cafeteria, bus)
• Participate in bus duty, hall monitoring, lunchroom duty, playground duty, and other duties assigned by the building supervisor or principal

• Frequently required to crawl, sit, stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and use repetitive motions
• May frequently lift and/or move at least 50 pounds (100 pounds vertically for Special Education and Transportation positions)
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus
• Position requires meeting multiple demands from several people and interacting with the public and other staff members
• May come into contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, requiring precautions to ensure health and safety of all children, parents, staff, and themselves
• Proper restraining may be required to ensure children's safety if they are at risk of hurting themselves or others
Mental Demands
Caring for children can be stressful. ECCAT/Aide must ensure that children are supervised at all times, and that children are involved in safe and appropriate activities.
