Job Summary

The Springfield City School District is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Assistant Custodian for the 2026-2027 school year. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our facilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent Trainee or experience in custodial and basic maintenance techniques

Responsibilities

Cleaning and Maintenance

Ensuring cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, and steps Recycling materials according to the recycling program Cleaning restrooms and locker rooms daily and replenishing supplies Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and custodial equipment Groundskeeping equipment setup and maintenance Setting up and taking down special equipment for assemblies, programs, and activities

Operations and Safety

Operating necessary equipment to promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment Assisting in the cafeteria during lunch Cleaning the kitchen Guarding property against fire, theft, and illegal entry Obedying all safety regulations at all times Providing security for buildings by attending to the physical plant during open hours Securing doors, windows, and restricted areas during closed hours Responding to Sonitrol calls in the absence of the head custodian

Grounds Maintenance

Mowing, trimming shrubbery, removing snow and ice, picking up and emptying receptacles, etc. Lifting and moving equipment, furniture, supplies, or materials (up to 80 lbs and 50 yards)

What We Offer

Starting salary: $20.41 per hour 8 hours per day, 260 days per year (Monday - Friday, 2:00pm - 11:00pm or as assigned) Professional development opportunities Excellent competitive benefits
