• College hours for Title I campus: 48 required or a score of 464 on the Parapro Test
• College hours (15) for non-Title I campus: High school diploma or GED (with passing score on Parapro)
• Valid Texas Educational Aide II Certificate required once employed
• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of general office equipment
• Valid CPI Certification preferred (can be obtained after employment)

Job Description

Reports to: Principal Duty Days: 187 days Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Pay Grade: IS04 Updated: 06/2025

Primary Purpose

Instructional and student-care duties as assigned.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to special education aides.
• Participate in planned in-services and professional growth activities.
• Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
• Assist in data collection
• Assist in preparation, use, and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist with teacher-planned activities, exercises, and drills.
• Assist when needed in helping students in self-care activities such as toileting.
• Assist in implementing the adaptive behavior protocol.
• Attend professional meetings as required.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.
• Other short duties as assigned
• Provide personal care as identified in applicable student IEPs.

Working Conditions

• Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over daily), positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment, noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students.
• May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
